Greetings
from Thailand! We recently left our last destination in China, which was
Kunming. We were only there for a few days, but I enjoyed our time there. We
had the chance to serve as well as to see some of the culture and the beauty of
the city. It was located in the mountains, and though it was not small, it felt
small compared to Xi’an and Beijing.
We arrived
in Kunming on Friday night, where we were greeted by our wonderful hosts. One
couple cooked supper for us that night and let all eighteen of us come to their
apartment when we wanted to meet as a group. Other families hosted small groups
of us, and we were all housed comfortably in the same apartment complex during
our stay.
On
Saturday, we had the chance to see the Minority Village. This was a fun way to
see some of the cultures and people groups represented in Kunming. We got to
walk around the area for a while, then we saw a performance, which was fun.
We
went to church on Sunday. This church was designed for internationals, and they
spoke English there. Our group performed a song as a choir, and then we went
back to help with Sunday school lessons during the service. After church, we
went to the Flying Tigers restaurant and then the Kunming Museum. Some of us
then did a little more sightseeing afterwards, either going downtown to shop or
visiting a local market.
On Monday,
we went to help out at Kunming International Academy, a K-12 school for
international students. Some of us helped out with P.E. or music classes;
others went to a specific grade and helped that teacher all day by reading
books with students, helping with homework, or doing whatever the teacher
asked. Many of us then helped out with the Harvest Party at the end of the day,
where we assisted with crafts or other activities.
The next
day (Tuesday, November 1), we left Kunming and flew to Thailand. We will be
here for the rest of the month teaching at Santisuk English School, and I am
excited to see how God uses us during this time!
